Effects of chronic disease Discussion
Effects of chronic disease: A number of long term medical disorders have
been associated with increased risk of surgical complications. Such
problems include chronic lung disease, alcoholism, diabetes, vascular
disease, chronic open wounds, malnutrition, chronic anemia, chronic renal
failure, immunosuppressive therapy, illness leading to progressive
weight loss, as well as others. These conditions increase the chances that
the patient will have complications involving wound infection, poor wound
healing or other problems leading to surgical failure.
