Litigation relating to Diagnosis Discussion
Ongoing or potential litigation relating to current condition: According to
Littlejohn (1989) It is generally acknowledged that pain symptoms persist
while there are outstanding medicolegal considerations. Patients who
perceive themselves as injured in this situation are very reluctant to let
go of their symptoms until the final verdict has taken place and they
receive their compensation...Here, the medicolegal process itself acts as
the main stimulus to continue the symptoms.. Patients who have potential
compensation for their upper extremity disorder have an increased
likelihood of having otherwise unexpected problems with delayed, incomplete
or temporary recovery. The reasons for this are probably multifactorial,
and not necessarily related to malingering.
