Replantation results, on the average:

1 Average time off work is 7 months

2 There is a 36-77% chance of having only protective sensation, if at all

3 Cold intolerance is common, related to problems with nerve function

4 Motion in the joints remaining in the amputated part average 50% normal

5 60% of patients require more than 2 additional operations

6 Total cost of replantation is 5 - 15 times that of amputation revision

7 Permanent impairment rating is usually the same as for amputation

8 Many experienced hand surgeons would decline replantation on themselves
